The Collective magazine is a non-profit organization that gives a voice to creatives and artists in the Champaign-Urbana area. It was founded in 2017 and releases art magazines in the fall and spring. Artists and small businesses are able to submit their artworks so that they can share their creativity with others.
Issue 9
The theme for The Collective Magazine’s 9th Issue is “Fairytales and Folklore”. I designed a spread for an article called “Dear Reader: A Manual on all Things Cottage Core”. The article describes the history of cottage core clothing and the ways in which it has influenced fashion today. The concept behind the spread’s design is a diary belonging to someone living in the country side. I included photos I took of people dressed in handmade cottage core clothing, quilted flower illustrations, and torn up book paper to reflect its rural aesthetic.

Issue 10
I designed an article called spread “Rebel With a Cause: Subtle resistance and youth culture around the world” for The Collective’s 10th issue. The theme of this issue is “Eternal Youth”, which revolves around youth culture and community. The article informs readers about global fashion trends that were inspired by social movements in different countries. I wanted to add visual elements that depicted the symbolism and fashion components behind these social and cultural revolutions.
These Featured Artists posts aim to give more exposure to local Champaign-Urbana artists and they highlight those that will be featured in the Collective's newest magazine issues. The post's content allows each artist to talk about their visuals, concepts, inspirations, and art style.
Eternal youth sticker designs
These sticker designs reflect on summer aesthetics and the theme of eternal youth. I decided to use a bright and soft color palette, as well as playful imagery to represent the idea of youthful spirit and creativity. Additionally, I used symbols such as butterflies and flowers to visually portray the transformational period of moving into adulthood and finding your sense of self.
